ABOUT OUR LIBRARY
The library of the Faculty of Public Administration is an academic library and a specialised information and documentation centre for public administration. The main function of the library is to provide library and information services for the benefit of higher education and research in public administration, public sector, economics, etc. for students, university teachers, and employees of the University of Ljubljana. The library is also open to the general public.
It provides adequate working facilities and easy access to library materials. The services are based on quality, user-friendliness, and the use of current technologies.
The library is part of the Library Information System of the University of Ljubljana, and like other higher education libraries, operates within the framework of the joint programme for the development of library and information systems of the University of Ljubljana. The common processing of material and the supply of services through the COBISS system enable the rationalisation and better flow of different types of material.
The main joint activities within the University of Ljubljana library systems are:
- rules on the general conditions of University of Ljubljana libraries' services and operations,
- software for union cataloguing, acquisition, interlibrary loan, lending, etc.,
- consortia for e-sources,
- Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana (DIKUL).
Being a member of the University of Ljubljana Library System means that the library can provide access to several licenced and open access sources for its users. The most important is DIKUL, with a federated search engine, open URL linker, and remote access (approx.100,000 licenced e-journals, e-books, and databases available). There is direct access from public computers at all locations of the University of Ljubljana, and remote access with a password for University of Ljubljana students and employees.
The library of the Faculty of Public Administration is regularly developing services in order to meet its users’ needs, and it also follows all the novelties in the library and in information science. It cooperates and develops partnerships with various higher education institutions and libraries in Slovenia and abroad (Bank of Slovenia, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, University of Sarajevo, University of Novi Sad, University of Podgorica, University of Rijeka, University of Zagreb, University of Split, German National Library of Economics, etc.). The library participates in a free-of-charge inter-library exchange of printed and electronic publications.
