The Faculty of Public Administration opted for scientific research tutorship with the aim to provide organised guiding of students through the entire research process, from the outline to the solution of a research problem. The primary objective of such tutorship is to offer assistance to students in their research work, which is an integral part of any educational process.
It is designed to form a student research group, which can be joined by any interested undergraduate and postgraduate, full-time and part-time student, of the Faculty of Public Administration. Students choose the most interesting topic(s) of the published research topics, contact the tutor in the field and draft a work programme. The topics are suggested by the heads of chairs, the heads of institutes and the promoters of individual research projects and course fields, who participate in research implementation as project managers.
After a student research group is formed, the students carry out the research activity with the help of a tutor for a specific research field. The tutor guides the students and advises them during the entire course of the research – from choosing research methods, searching for literature and carrying out the research to compiling a research paper – and thus provides comprehensive assistance in solving a specific research problem or question. The working method of the student research group is determined by the group’s work programme drawn up based on topics that are available in the specific academic year.
Why student research work?
In agreement with the educator who suggested the topic, the student may assert the work implemented within the student research group as e.g. part of the acknowledged requirements (e.g. part of an examination, seminar paper) or as a completed student practice placement.
The research work can help students gain various scholarships (for example the Zois scholarship).
The best research papers are presented at one of the regular monthly Research Forums, gathering the expert and scientific public. Moreover, the best papers are presented at the regular annual Student Conference of the Faculty of Public Administration.
