Introductory student tutorship is intended for students of the first year at the 1st or 2nd cycle that find themselves in a new living and educational environment. There are many changes and novelties in that period that a fresher must master in order to begin their studies successfully. Student tutors help new students mainly by providing them with information that is important for them and advising them on how to act when they encounter problems.
- Who can be an introductory student tutor?
Any student who is enrolled at least in the second year of an individual programme at a particular cycle of the study programmes in the current academic year. In the selection process, students with a higher average mark in their studies are given priority.
The chosen student must attend training for student tutors, organised by the Faculty, prior to the commencement of the work or the academic year.
- Character traits and other knowledge of an introductory student tutor
A student tutor must, above all, have a positive attitude towards tutor work. An introductory student tutor must be familiar with the operation of the Faculty, its study programmes and the rules and forms of assistance offered by the Faculty; he or she must be acquainted with the broader student issues and possess knowledge of the basics of counselling, communication techniques and problem solving. Furthermore, he or she must be able to accept and heed the opinions of other people, empathise with their problems and offer assistance to them. A student tutor must be able to clearly set the boundaries in communication during tutor work with a group of students and in the event of problems contact the person in charge of tutorship in a timely manner.
