The Research Institute of the Faculty of Public Administration consists of 48 researchers who are connected in research and project groups of national and international projects and who study economic-financial, administrative law and information-organizational phenomena, processes and practices. Administrative and technical support is provided by the Research & Development Office, the strategic and content focus is led by the Vice-Dean for scientific research.
In carrying out scientific research, development, consulting and educational work, we pursue a number of objectives, which we focus on depending on the area of work:
– Development of administrative science and profession,
– Transfer of research achievements and results into practice and into the educational process,
– Development of the Faculty as one of the most important institutions in this field in the Republic of Slovenia,
– Development of individual research potentials,
– Creation of complementary sources of financing,
– Involving students in independent research work.
The Faculty Research Institute carries out research, development and scientific work in the field of administration as an interdisciplinary science. The Institute acquires and organises research projects, provides professional bases for the preparation of general acts and decisions of government bodies, local community bodies and other persons of public law, and prepares expert opinions on the application and interpretation of legal acts in the Republic of Slovenia and the EU.
The Institute is also a central source of knowledge in the field of computerisation of public administration and e-government in Slovenia. It explores new ways of creative use of information and communication technologies in administration, and develops solutions for more efficient and simpler administration.
The Institute focuses on the study of the public sector and public service industries using the tools of economics, economic policy, business, organisation, management and administration sciences, with the aim of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of its activities.
The Institute’s main activities include:
– conducting research and acquiring research projects in the field of economic and business studies in the public sector at home and abroad;
– cooperating with scientific and research organisations in joint research and other projects in the field of the public sector;
– liaising with similar Slovenian and foreign institutions and centres in the field of the public sector;
– connecting and cooperating in organisational networks set up by institutions engaged in research on the functioning of the public sector abroad;
– advising public sector institutions and public service companies;
– advising government bodies and local community bodies on the organisation and functioning of the public sector;
– advising independent professional agencies on the efficient functioning of public service companies and public institutions.
