- for a student who completes a second-cycle study programme, upon the expiry of the study year in which he/she completed his/her studies,

In the cases referred to in the fourth, fifth and seventh indents of the first paragraph and the second paragraph of this Article, a student’s student status may also be extended for justified reasons, but for a maximum of one year.

The method and form of providing information regarding the renunciation of student status referred to in the previous paragraph shall be determined by the minister responsible for higher education.
Extension of student status
A student may have their student status extended for justified reasons, but for a maximum of one year. Eligible reasons include: prolonged illness, exceptional family and social circumstances, parenthood and the status of a student with special needs or special status.
A legitimate reason for extending student status for foreign students in the first year of study whose mother tongue is not Slovenian is considered to be learning Slovenian.
Student mothers who give birth during their studies and students who become fathers during their studies have the right to extend their student status for one year for each child born.
The deadline for submitting applications is between 1. 8. 2025 and 20. 9. 2025.
Change of study mode
A student may apply to change the study mode (full-time/part-time). Changing the study mode is only possible upon advancement to a higher year. Transfer from part-time to full-time studies may be permitted if the student has completed all obligations of the enrolled year and if there are still free places in the year in which he/she wishes to enroll. Transfer from full-time to part-time studies may be permitted if the student meets the conditions for promotion to the next year that apply to part-time students. The number of places in the next year is limited by the number of places advertised for enrollment in the first year. A student may change the mode of study only once during his/her studies in the program. The decision on changing the mode of study is made by the Postgraduate Studies Committee upon the student’s written request.
The deadline for submitting applications is 20. 9. 2025.
Continuing studies after interruption
On the basis of Article 128 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana, a student who has lost his student status may, subject to payment, perform his study obligations for another two years from the loss of his status, unless the program’s accreditation expires. After two years, the student must submit a request for continuation or completion of studies at the Commission for Postgraduate Studies. Based on the evidence of completed study obligations up to the interruption, the Committee for Postgraduate Studies decides on the eligibility to continue or completion of studies. In the case of a positive decision, the year in which the candidate can continue his education or the obligations he must fulfill to complete his studies is determined. At the same time, the conditions and obligations that the candidate must fulfill again and/or additionally, if the accredited study program in which he is enrolled or is completing have changed during this time.
A candidate who, before losing student status, completed all study obligations except for the final work and had the subject of the final work confirmed no later than six months after losing student status, can complete their studies without payment, but no later than within two years of losing status.
The deadline for submitting applications is during the entire study year.
