- Relationship between state and law
- The European Union as a special supranational organization and the specific features of EU law; Republic of Slovenia as a member of the European Union.
- Basic characteristics of modern law
- Law and politics, Legal rules and legal acts
- Constitution as a manifold act;
- Comparative constitutions (history, development, today) and democracy
- Basic characteristics of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia
- General and special constitutional provisions;
- Human rights and basic freedoms;
- Economic and social relations;
- Separation of powers: legislator and executive branch;
- Judiciary and state prosecutors;
Objectives and competences
Student:
- Knows basic concepts of law, origin of law, the structure of law and legal system,
- understand the concept of the modern state, the application of the acquis in the modern state,
- understand the methods of law in practice and can explain the basic legal terminology,
- can identify specific EU law as the law of supranational organizations,
- can display the legal system with emphasis on the legal rule, legal acts and legal relationship,
- knows how to analyze and solve legal problems,
- understands fundamental theoretical knowledge of the constitution as a manifold act,
- knows the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia and its significance in the legal hierarchy,
- understands the role and significance of the European Union.
Competences:
- to analyze and critically evaluate law system and different legal institutions,
- to apply theoretical knowledge to solve legal problems,
- acquire the skills needed to use professional literature and online resources,
- to know and understand the origins and development of the constitution.
- During practical work, students learn to search, collect and interpret data in the national – Slovenian – official gazette and the EU’s official journal.
- the ability to interrelate sociological, political, and legal factors of the constitutions,
- Knowledge of the constitution in the formal and substantive senses,
- understanding of the relationship between the constitutional order and other legal subjects,
- the ability to understand and apply knowledge of the European Union,
- The ability to systematically classify and interpret specific constitutional issues.
