Content
Development of language competences: reading, writing, listening and spleaking for successful communication in academic and professional settings:
- Reading authentic professional texts: written and oral summarising, critical analysis and interpretation of professional articles, official EU documents etc.;
- Writing professional texts: study of language functions typical of professional written communication (official EU documents, minutes, reseach reports, etc.);
- EPSO exam preparation (sample tests, using appropriate terminology and phrases)
- Listening to spoken professional texts: development of the skills of active listening to news, lectures, presentations, speeches, meetings, etc., and note-taking and summarising them in English and Slovenian;
- Spoken communication in professional settings: development of the competence to communicate on professional and intercultural topics of EU member states, using argumentation, clarification, persuasion, etc., and collaborate in international teams within EU institutions;
- Use of vocabulary and functional structures typical of professional and academic spoken and written discourse;
- Planning, conducting and presenting a group problem-based project in English (in collaboration with the EU module courses).
Objectives and competences
Objectives:
To help students develop the knowledge and professional skills required to understand, critically analize, write and spleak about English professional and academic texts in the field of EU, and effectively communicate in business and academic settings. To help students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to take the EPSO exam.
Competences:
Students will be able to effectively communicate in professional and academic settings. They will be able to understand, analize, summarize, and write professional and academic texts in the chosen field. They will be able to actively participate in debates and discussions and deliver public presentations in English. They will be able to tackle professional problems using the English language.
