1. Objectives and competences

Objectives
student:

  • understands and able to use basic theoretical concepts, terms, and technologies in the area of informatics
  • relates the history of informatics and computer science to the current state of development of information technology
  • discovers and analyzes the impact of informatics and information systems on society and public administration
  • use information technology to solve practical problems

Competences:

  • ability to use information and communication technology for acquiring, processing, and disseminating data and information
  • ability to search information from the areas of administrative and management sciences
  • ability to design, analyze, and upgrade information systems

  • Introduction and definition of basic terms
  • Information technology: hardware and software
  • Telecommunication technology: computer networks and data security
  • General system theory
  • Information systems: introduction, definition, and typology
  • Development life-cycle of information systems
  • Organization of databases and introduction to data modeling
  • Examples of information systems in public administration and business
  • Practical use of standard office software suites
  • Practical use of Web resources in the public administration domain

  • Knowledge about the history of informatics and computer science and understanding of their impact on the development of society and public administration
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic terms and concepts in the area of informatics, with the special focus of information and communication technology and information systems

6. Assessment

  • Written exam (theoretical part of the    exam, can be done with two colloquia) (50%)
  • Practical exam (practical part of the exam in a computer laboratory) (50%)
