  • separating formal speech from informal speech

  • giving oral and written messages from German into Slovene and vice versa
  • preparation of a shorter professional written text
  • reading comprehension of professional vocabulary
  • expressing opinion on a certain well known topic

  • talk about a higher education system in an international environment
  • read and listen to shorter, simple texts of specific administration-related language
  • use the phone and write e-mail messages
  • express opinion (agreement or disagreement) on a certain well known topic
  • prepare a written and oral presentation
  • find online different sources in German
  • use online sources for lifelong learning of a foreign language.


2. Content

  • German speaking countries, importance of German, learning strategies of foreign language and specific terminology
  • Study in Slovenia and Germany, student exchange
  • Facts about Slovenia and its political system
  • Presentation of an EU-member-state and comparison with Slovenia
  • State administration, division of powers, professional profiles in public administration
  • Local self-government (municipalities, structure and tasks)
  • Local elections
  • Presentation of a home town/municipality (problems and solutions)
  • Invitation to cooperation, preparation of a visit program
  • Using the phone in business situations and writing e-mail messages
  • Communication between a civil servant and a German speaking client
  • EU Member states, inhabitants and languages of the EU
  • Migrations - work and residence permit for job-seekers from a third country (non-member EU state)

4. Intended learning outcomes


Students will be able to:

  • use basic grammatical and functional structures relevant for the field of public administration;
  • use basic business language and public administration vocabulary in spoken and written discourse;
  • prepare and deliver a quality oral presentation in German;
  • produce simple written and oral specialised texts in German;
  • autonomously use online sources and language databases for regular use and  improvement of German.
