Insurance for Students Who Are Slovenian Citizens

Students (full-time and part-time), citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, who are included in the study programmes at the University of Ljubljana, where insurance for the event of an injury at work or occupational disease is obligatory due to the involved practical training (exercises, field trips, student placement), have to take up compulsory health insurance in the Republic of Slovenia. If they do not have this insurance, the members of the University of Ljubljana cannot include them in the insurance for the event of an injury at work and occupational disease.

Additional information is available at the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, Enrolment Services of the University of Ljubljana and at the member of the University of Ljubljana where the student wishes to study.

On the basis of the Certificate of Acceptance to Compulsory Student Placement, the Faculty arranges insurance for the student according to the Pension and Disability Insurance Act for the events of disability, physical disability or death resulting from an injury at work or occupational disease. The organisation in which the student carries out the student placement arranges the insurance for the event of injury at work or occupational disease for the duration of the placement, according to the Health Care and Health Insurance Act.

Insurance for Foreign Students

Foreign students (full-time and part-time) who are included in the study programmes at the University of Ljubljana, where insurance for the event of an injury at work or occupational disease is obligatory due to the involved practical training (exercises, field trips, student placement), have to take up compulsory health insurance in the Republic of Slovenia. Persons liable for insurance are the students themselves.

If they do not have compulsory health insurance in the Republic of Slovenia, the members of the University of Ljubljana cannot include them in the insurance for the event of an injury at work and occupational disease.

Health insurance of foreign students in their homeland, on the basis of which the European Card of Health Insurance is issued, health insurance in the country with which Slovenia has concluded a bilateral agreement on social insurance (Croatia, the Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina), or various commercial insurances do not present a basis for setting up the said health insurance.
Compulsory health insurance in Slovenia for foreign students is not included in the tuition fees and is charged in accordance with the regulations of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (HIIS), the Pension and Disability Insurance Institute (PDII) and the price list of the University of Ljubljana.

Additional information is available at the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, International Insurance Department, Mala ulica 3, Ljubljana, phone number 00386-1-3077700, Enrolment Service of the University of Ljubljana and the member of the University of Ljubljana where the student wishes to study.
