Conditions for Advancement to a Higher Year for Undergraduate Study Programmes in the Academic Year 2020/2021

Full-time Study:

Part-time Study:

  • enrolment in the 3rd year: 104 ECTS, of which 60 ECTS from compulsory courses from the 1st year.

This decision does not predict enrolment in a higher year with several uncompleted requirements.

Reenrolment in Full-time and Part-time Study

According to Article 125 of the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana a student who has not completed all the requirements set by the study programme for enrolment into a higher year may once in the course of the studies repeat a year if he or she has satisfied the conditions for reenrolment set by the study programme.

Reenrolment in the 1st Year

Students who have not completed the requirements for enrolment into the 2nd year may repeat a year once if:

  • they have completed the requirements for the 1st year equivalent to 30 ECTS,
  • they were enrolled in the 1st year in the academic year 2019/2020,
  • they have not enrolled in any other undergraduate study programme.

Reenrolment in the 2nd Year

Students who have not completed the requirements for enrolment into the 3rd year may repeat a year once if:

  • they have completed the requirements for the 1st year equivalent to 52 ECTS,
  • they have completed the requirements for the 2nd year equivalent to 30 ECTS,
  • they were enrolled in the 2nd year in the academic year 2019/2020,
  • they have not enrolled in any other undergraduate study programme.

Enrolment in an Additional Year

An additional year can be enrolled in by students who were enrolled in the 3rd year in the academic year 2019/2020. On the basis of Article 70 of the Higher Education Act the student status is terminated if a student graduates or does not graduate within twelve months following the completion of the last semester if in the time of the study from the academic year 2012/2013 including he or she has not repeated a year or changed the study programme or the field.
For students enrolled in the study programmes of the 1st cycle in the academic year 2012/2013 who, until the completion of the study, have not exercised the right to repeat a year once in the time of study or change the study programme or field due to unfulfilled requirements in the previous field or study programme, applies:

  • that the student status terminates if they do not graduate within twelve months following the completion of the last semester if from including the academic year 2012/2013 on they will not repeat a year or change the study programme or course – an additional year or
  • that the student status terminates at the completion of the last semester if from including the academic year 2012/2013 on they will repeat a year or change the study programme or course – no additional year.

The student status can be prolonged for the maximum of one year based on justified reasons. Student mothers, giving birth during their studies, have the right to prolonged student status by one year for each living child.

Accelerated Advancement

The Committee for Undergraduate Study can upon a written request allow the student an accelerated advancement of the study programme, thus completing the study in a shorter time than determined by the study programme for the duration of full-time study. The condition for accelerated advancement is all the requirements completed with an average grade above 8.5.

The deadline for submission of applications is throughout the academic year.

Changing the Mode of Study

Students can change the mode of study only when advancing to a higher year. The transfer can be allowed if students have completed all requirements of the current year and if there are still free enrolment places in the year they want to enrol. The number of places in a higher year is limited by the number of advertised places for the enrolment in the 1st year. Students can only once during their studies change the mode of study. The Committee for Undergraduate Study upon a student’s written request decides on the changing of the mode of study.

The deadline for submission of applications is 25th September 2020.
