Enrollment in the second academic year and completed all exams (100 ECTS).
2. Content (Syllabus outline)
The content depends on the chosen topic of the master thesis. The content of diploma thesis is proposed by mentor. Students choose mentor of their choice, based on given topics by lecturers of different subjects from the study.
The readings are chosen according to the topic of the thesis.
4. Objectives and competences
To pursue a competent, autonomous scholarly theoretical or research work, whereby the student proves to be capable of a thorough and in-depth analysis of the chosen topic. The student is capable of proving or refuting his/her argument, masters the use of primary sources and scholarly literature and is able to support his/her argument.
Topic-related specific competences:
competent use of different theoretical concepts and methodological approaches in dealings with a specific issue;
capacity to critically ponder pros and cons in the argumentation of a specific concept, theory, or empirical approach;
a critical use of primary and secondary sources; mastering of research methods, and proficiency in scholarly writing;
synthesis of research results and findings.
5. Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
Knowledge of the existing theories and methodological approaches; understanding of the differences between these methodologies and their application to a specific issue, understanding of key principles of scholarly work.
Use in practice:
Practical use of individual methodological approaches in analysis of the chosen topic/issue and the use of scholarly methods.
Based on the knowledge of scholarly procedures the student is capable of contextualization of his/her argument within the framework of a wider context.
Generic practical use
Student can work on sources, evaluate empirical data, master different theoretical approaches, is capable of critical analysis, can apply different methods of research to everyday practice.
6. Learning and teaching methods
Individual scholarly work (practical and/or theoretical); individual consultations with mentor.
Thesis presentation (statement of objectives, description of methodology), expected findings and thesis defense and question period, publishing the results of previous research 100%
9. Lecturer's references
Student prepares the master thesis with the chosen mentor. Lecurers's references are cited in the individual course syllabus and are valid for mentorship as well.
